Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton broke the shackles that bound him at McLaren and turned over a new leaf with Mercedes in 2013.

Widely criticised for his move for leaving a team with whom he clinched his maiden world championship, the Briton answered his critics with a promising start to his new stint.

While Mercedes has emerged as a potential title contender for 2014, McLaren on the other hand has question marks regarding its future. It appears that Hamilton jumped ship at the right time, particularly after the Woking-based outfit endured one of its worst seasons in 2013.

Hamilton exploded into Formula One in 2007 and made an immediate impact as a title contender in the highest echelons of motorsport.

Teamed up against Fernando Alonso in his debut season, the British driver ruffled the feathers of the double world champion nearly clinching the title at his first attempt.

The following year Hamilton achieved what he was destined to; he became the youngest ever F1 champion at the time, then beating Felipe Massa at his home race for the title on the final corner of the last lap, by one point!

The Brit throughout the years has excited and entertained everyone with daring overtaking moves and coupled with his aggressive driving style, decimated the opposition on route to his many race wins.

Since his world championship winning year, however, things have not been too rosy.

But now paired with long-time friend Nico Rosberg, Hamilton remains a threat and could be key to propel Mercedes to new heights.

QUOTES ON LEWIS HAMILTON

He's a quality driver, very strong and only 16. If he keeps this up I'm sure he will reach F1. It's something special to see a kid of his age out on the circuit. He's clearly got the right racing mentality
