PROFILE
Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel was crowned the youngest triple world champion after he won his third straight title at the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix in 2012 despite spinning and facing the wrong direction on the opening lap of the race! His campaign was a tough one, far from the domination in the preceding year.

The German is no stranger to breaking records in Formula 1 ever since he stepped into the sport as the youngest driver to take part in a race weekend at the 2006 Turkish GP when he got into the cockpit of a BMW-Sauber in a practice session.

On his first racing opportunity he did enough to grab attention after he became the youngest driver to score a point when he finished eighth in the U.S. Grand Prix in the following year.

His talent pushed him for a race seat at Toro Rosso late in 2007, owing to his ties to Red Bull, and in 2008 announced his arrival after grabbing pole position and winning the Italian Grand Prix, which meant that he was the youngest to grab the coveting starting grid and also emerge victorious in an F1 race.

It was obvious that Red Bull placed Vettel in its team for 2009 where he opened the Milton Keynes-based team's wins tally in F1 and propelled himself to second in the drivers' championship following more victories.

In 2010, in a year laced with reliability issues and a strong challenge from his rivals, Vettel clinched his first title at the season-ending race, trumping the opposition at Abu Dhabi.

He went better still in 2011 utterly trouncing the field, breaking the record for most poles in a season and leading the most laps in a year in F1 history.

Born in 1987, Vettel still has a long path ahead of him in the sport and it would be no surprise that he emulates a certain compatriot who holds seven titles to his name.
