PROFILE
Sebastien Buemi

Sebastien Buemi became the first Swiss driver on the F1 grid in 14 years when he made his debut with Toro Rosso in the 2009 season. Replacing Sebastian Vettel - who moved to Red Bull - Buemi pulled off a 7th place finish in his debut in Australia causing many to sit up and take notice of his talent.

Toro Rosso was never a favourite to compete even as a midfield-runner, leave alone battle at the top of the 2009 grid. But despite that, Buemi managed to bag six points and displayed credible aggression driving a poor car. He scored 75% of Toro Rosso’s total championship points and displayed a towering degree of maturity as he handled the pressure of stepping into the ‘leading role’ in the team.

His more experienced partner, Sebastien Bourdais, was sacked mid-season and was replaced by a young untested teenager in Jaime Alguersuari. But Buemi was unfazed and he put his head down to deliver the goods for his team bringing out the best that he could from a struggling car.

Sebastien Buemi is ambitious about his future and hopes to win points and races in the time ahead. It may seem like an uphill task at this point, but if he gets the right support from his team, there is nothing that can stop the ‘Swiss scorcher’.
