Former Tennis legend Boris Becker is yet another enthusiast of the chequered flag from the sporting world. It is not surprising that Becker loves to attend the race at Monaco as many other jazzy celebs do. He has had quite a few interesting interactions with the F1 fraternity as compared to other glitterati.

Just for reminiscence sake, Becker is a six-time Grand Slam singles champion and an Olympic gold medallist. Even after his retirement as a professional, he has not remained alien to the media. On his visit to the Bahrain International Circuit in 2008, the McLaren fan was treated with a private tour of the British team.

He also had attended the first of two three-day tests for the 2008 Formula One contestants -a little testimony of his keen interest in the sport.

The German has also starred in a witty television commercial for Mercedes-Benz with double world champion Mika Hakkinen. At the Monaco Grand Prix in 2008, Williams F1 driver and Becker’s compatriot Nico Rosberg dared him some games of tennis at the Monaco Tennis Club which they both reportedly 'enjoyed thoroughly'.

Another obscure connection between the sports icon and F1 could be that three towers to be called “Boris Becker Tower”, “Michael Schumacher Business Avenue” and “Niki Lauda Twin Towers” will be seen in Dubai very soon.

Becker who was also present at Michael Schumacher's farewell race at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2006 had warned him about his retirement plan. Among others like Niki Lauda, Mika Hakkinen and Michael Jordan, he warned Schumi about the tough transition phase that he would face after retirement to return to a normal life.

What's more, Becker went on to express his enthusiasm on the official Formula One portal. He was quoted as saying, “Who doesn’t know by now that I am hooked on Formula One? Not going to at least three races in a season would create withdrawal symptoms! And to miss Monaco is almost a sin. And who wants to be a sinner? Not me. So see me next time at the German Grand Prix - that’s a question of honour.”

  • Self-admittedly he often visits the paddock in Germany.
  • He regularly visits the Monaco Grand Prix.
  • He attended a Hugo Boss fashion show along with Mika Hakkinen as a part of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin in 2008.
  • On an instance, Becker and Schumacher had donated generously to an autism clinic.
  • Becker presented the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year to Schumacher in 2004.
