Not only did Rubens Barrichello arrive at Hockenheim wearing an “I beat the Stig” t-shirt, today he gave out three t-shirts with “I didn’t beat the Stig” written on them. The lucky recipients were Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, all of whom have been on BBC’s Top Gear. Jenson, we’re told, accused Rubens of cutting a corner!

Last night’s Mercedes party left most of the paddock nursing a sore head this morning. Every team was invited, so members of AT&T Williams had a chance to catch-up with former charge Nico Rosberg over a beer. Only Nico wasn’t drinking; he left that to Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug, who was partying until 5am!

Today’s incessant rain left our communications manager Liam Clogger with a dilemma. He had just one umbrella and had to escort Adam Parr and Nico Hulkenberg to the FIA press conference. Who was going to get wet: his boss or his driver. “The boss,” says Liam. “Was that a foolish decision?”

It passed pretty much unnoticed, but there was a Formula One first this weekend. Monisha Kaltenborn, the CEO of Sauber, became the first woman to take part in an official FIA press conference. Girl power!
