Lewis Hamilton was determined to take a decision to leave McLaren for 2013 early in the season, according to Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone but now even the 81-year-old is stumped about where the British driver will race next year.

The 2008 world champion has been linked to a seat at Mercedes for next season but whether he will actually make the move is anybody’s guess.

"I don't think Hamilton knows what he will do," Ecclestone told ESPN F1. "These last couple of races he has been doing very well. Before that, why he was upset I don't know, but he was definitely going to move no matter what.

“He had made up his mind that he was going. Whether he has changed now a little bit I don't know," the 81-year-old added.
