Michael Schumacher may not have given any indication what he would do next after he was replaced at Mercedes for next season, but the seven-time world champion has options in Formula 1 still available.
Speculation has suggested that the 43-year-old may retire and take up a management role, return to Ferrari to take Felipe Massa’s seat or even settle for a lesser team on the grid.
Sauber is one such outfit that could serve as a likely route for the German, a team with which he had raced during his sportscar days.
"Of course it's nice to think of such a possibility, that we can ask ourselves if we can get a seven-time world champion when he is on the market," Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn told the Bild. "Michael has until now been with just big stables which we can't compare ourselves to."
AFP reported that team principal Peter Sauber would “immediately” sign Schumacher, should he be given an opportunity.
