Ferrari’s decision to extend Felipe Massa’s contract for another year was not an obvious choice for the Italian team suggesting that several other candidates were considered before settling for the logical option.
Ferrari clarified that the decision to retain the Brazilian did not rest with Fernando Alonso but did admit that Massa’s presence was harmonious as he had the "capacity to work for the good of the team.”
“Fans of the Reds know the score: some decisions are made solely and exclusively for the good of Ferrari. The rest is all idle chatter,” read a statement on the team's website.
Massa is now set for his eighth straight season with Ferrari and his third year as Alonso’s teammate.
