Michael Schumacher has passed on his shining Formula 1 baton of Germany to Sebastian Vettel, who the 43-year-old believed was set to claim his third title this year.
The seven-time world champion dominated the sport in the first half of 2000s, winning five titles in a row, a feat which the Red Bull driver now has the chance to emulate having won the last two seasons.
“Sebastian is an obvious role model,” Schumacher told Die Welt. “I also think he will win this year’s title, he has the right conditions for it.
“In the long term, I think he should go on to become Germany’s Mister Formula 1,” added the Mercedes driver, who will be retiring from F1 at the end of the season."
