Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has questioned the upgrades introduced by the team at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix calling for personnel to heighten their efforts to help Fernando Alonso clinch the title this season.
During qualifying for the last race, the Spaniard was more than a second off the pole-sitter’s pace although he clawed back to finish second and close the gap by a mere three points in the standings suggesting that the developments were not good enough.
“I want to understand why the new parts that we brought to the track only partially improved the performance of the F2012, which wasn’t enough to allow Alonso to fight for the very front positions on the grid – despite the contrasting expectations of our engineers,” di Montezemolo said.
The Italian added that Alonso "produced his umpteenth great race of the season, in which he again gave 120 percent” saying that team should do the same and leave no stone unturned.
"We must do everything to arrive in Texas with a car that can fight for the victory,” he said.
Alonso trails championship leader Sebastian Vettel by ten points with two races remaining in the season.
