Finnish television channel MTV3 has said on its website that Heikki Kovalainen wants to drive for Lotus next season should the team decide not to renew Romain Grosjean’s contract for 2013.
Grosjean’s place in the line-up hasn’t been guaranteed as of yet while Kovalainen is believed to have lost his seat at Caterham for next year.
"I would like it to be Romain, but it depends more on him than me," Lotus co-owner Gerard Lopez told AFP.
Should Lotus sign Kovalainen, the team would field a Finnish line-up next season as Kimi Raikkonen has already been confirmed for another year.
