Sergio Perez is geared up for the massive change in his career after his transition from a mid-field team driver to the pressures of producing results for a title-winning squad.
The 22-year-old, who has been compared to McLaren’s triple champion Ayrton Senna back home in Mexico, is targeting the crown in his debut season with the British team.
"To be part of the team Ayrton did history with is very special. I hope one day my name can be next to those champions," Perez told Reuters.
"The target is not to score points or podiums, the target is to win, to fight for wins and to win the championship because when you come to McLaren you have got the opportunity to do it,” he said.
"Otherwise you should not join McLaren because here everybody is working for that goal,” he added.
However, he pointed out: "It's difficult to set a target from the start of the season. To tell you that I will be on pole in Melbourne will be very difficult for me to know."
