A day after a split with Marussia was made public, Timo Glock was announced to test a DTM car for BMW at the Circuit de la Comunitat in Valencia later this week.
The 30-year-old left the Russian-backed Formula 1 team, possibly ending his career in the sport, but was offered some respite after the German manufacturer named him as a tester on Tuesday.
“I have fond memories of my time with BMW Motorsport and am very excited about testing the BMW M3 DTM,” said Glock who has been a test driver for the manufacturer in F1 in 2007. “Furthermore, I am bound to see a few familiar faces in Valencia from my previous time with BMW. I am really looking forward to it.”
Glock has been associated with the marquee since the days he started racing single-seaters, which included the Formula BMW series.
“Timo has demonstrated his driving ability over many years, particularly in Formula 1,” BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt said referring to Glock’s 91 Grands Prix. “It is made all the nicer by the fact that he is, to a certain degree, returning to his roots in testing for BMW Motorsport.”
