Toro Rosso intends to end its association with Ferrari as its engine supplier and switch to Renault for 2014 and beyond.
The Italian squad has been running on units supplied by the Maranello-based manufacturer since 2007 but believes it stands to gain a lot more considering its sister team Red Bull has won both the championships in the last three years.
"We are in negotiations with Renault... but no contract signed so far," team principal Franz Tost was quoted saying by Reuters.
"This for sure would be an advantage because if you are racing with a Renault engine we would have the same gearbox as Red Bull, because this is possible from the regulation side," he explained.
"We will use the synergies that the regulations will allow us to do," Tost pointed out.
