Fernando Alonso may have skipped the opening pre-season test at Jerez as he may have been hurt during a karting event last month, a claim that Ferrari has denied.

Felipe Massa and Pedro de la Rosa tested the new F138 at the Spanish circuit last week with Alonso scheduled to make his first appearance at Barcelona on February 19.

The Italian team stated that the double world champion was not listed to run at Jerez as the Spaniard was following a strict training regimen to prepare for the season.

In regards to Alonso’s alleged injured rib, Ferrari dismissed it as a rumour calling the claims “utter nonsense”.

However, in May last year, Alonso had revealed that he had competed in the first half of the 2011 season nursing a leg injury and fighting a fever, a fact that was never disclosed throughout the campaign.
