The second pre-season test for 2013 begins on February 19 with the four-day session scheduled to be held at Barcelona.
Not only will Fernando Alonso make his first appearance, the Spaniard had skipped the first test at Jerez, in this year’s Ferrari but Williams will also debut its new car for the season on Tuesday morning.
Alonso was rumoured to have missed the opening session due to an injury, a claim which his team has denied.
Adrian Sutil too is back, returning behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time since he was dropped by Force India at the end of 2011. The German will test for the same team on Thursday before handing over the drive to reserve Jules Bianchi on Friday.
The outing will be a crucial one for all teams.
“The theory goes that if a car can be quick in Barcelona, it can be quick in most places,” tyre supplier Pirelli affirmed in a statement.
Marussia announced on Thursday that Max Chilton would be driving on the final day too, a decision which left out Luiz Razia from participating in the test.
"Given the stop-start nature of the running (on Thursday), it has made sense to keep Max in the car for consistency and he will therefore continue into (Friday), a day where the weather is likely to intervene in proceedings," the team said in a statement.
