Having been sidelined from Formula 1 since his horrific rally crash in February 2011, the Pole has been working hard to return to motorsport, which involved participating and even winning minor rallies.

A test with the Mercedes DTM team suggested that 28-year-old could return to the competitive racing scene until the German manufacturer signalled its end after it announced its driver line-up for this season’s touring car series.

Current McLaren tester Gary Paffett and former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher – now in his sixth DTM season – were among the six named as Mercedes drivers this season.

“A shame we will not see Robert Kubica in DTM! That would have been great!! He looked pretty good at the test!” ousted Marussia F1 driver and current BMW DTM racer Timo Glock mentioned on Twitter page

Kubica’s future remains uncertain.
