Kimi Raikkonen was replaced by Lotus third driver Davide Valsecchi for the penultimate day of testing on Saturday as the Finn was deemed not fit enough to take part.
Suspected to be affected by food poisoning, the 33-year-old however is hoped to return to driving duties for the final day of the Barcelona test on Sunday.
Teammate Romain Grosejean, who topped the times on Friday, was unavailable at Catalunya forcing the team to run Valsecchi instead.
“Team boss Eric Boullier told Autosport the Frenchman had been recalled to Barcelona, and there are hopes he will be able to rejoin the test by lunchtime on Saturday,” read a report on the British website.
