Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo's qualifying performance at the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday was summed up by a rival in just two words: "Ricciardo? Wow!"
The rival was Jenson Button of McLaren, who made the succinct comment after being told the order of the top ten qualifiers over his radio.
Ricciardo ended up qualifying in seventh place, only one spot off his career best and ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Button, Mark Webber and other leading lights.
"It’s the first time since Bahrain last year that I’ve made it to the top ten, so that’s nearly a whole year," the Australian said. "This result will boost everyone’s spirits, and mine as well and I really can’t wait for the lights to go out tomorrow!"
