Ferrari technical director Pat Fry was taken to a hospital in Barcelona on Saturday as the 49-year-old Briton was suffering from pain.
Fry, who was diagnosed with appendicitis, was absent from the pit wall during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. He has now been scheduled for an operation and will miss the rest of the weekend.
He is expected to return for the Monaco GP in two weeks time.
“A Ferrari spokesperson confirmed to Autosport that the loss of Fry did not have any detrimental impact on trackside operations because the problem was picked up early enough for the team to be reorganised ahead of free practice and qualifying,” the British website reported.
