Red Bull has a much faster car than the fourth and fifth places it achieved at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday but the pace has been masked by the quick-degrading Pirellis, according to Sebastian Vettel.
The German, who retained his championship lead, finished ahead of teammate Mark Webber at Catalunya as both the Red Bull drivers struggled to come in terms of managing their tyres.
“We need to catch up; we’re not going the pace of the car, we’re going the pace of the tyres and obviously we do something to make the tyres wear more,” Vettel observed.
Webber reckoned that rivals Ferrari and Lotus, drivers of which stood on the podium in Spain, were in a “bit of a different league”.
Both Vettel and Webber did four pit stops each over the course of the 66-lap race.
"If you don’t have the pace, then you can’t have the magic strategy,” Webber pointed out suggesting that the team could have done no better.
