Force India extended its lead over McLaren for fifth spot in the constructors’ championship to 14 points after the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.
While both the McLaren drivers finished outside the points in Montreal, the Force India duo gave their team seven points.
Paul di Resta, who started 17th, finished seventh on a one-stop strategy with a very long stint on the medium tyres.
Teammate Adrian Sutil, in contrast, was lucky to finish after a spin early in the race, after he attempted to overtake Williams’ Valtteri Bottas, did not result in any collision despite ending the wrong way in the middle of the track.
Later Pastor Maldonado collided into the rear of Sutil’s car and damaged the Force India’s rear wing. Towards the later stages, he was handed a drive through-penalty for ignoring the blue flags.
“I don’t think it was a fair penalty because I too had to lap so many cars and it sometimes took one or two laps, and that’s normal for this circuit. The penalty cost me two positions and three points,” Sutil argued.
“That race was quite an adventure so it’s good to come away with a point given everything that happened,” he added referring to his tenth place.
