Button's helmet goes interactive for British GP

Mobil 1 has teamed up with Blippar – the augmented reality experts – to make the Mobil 1 logo on Jenson Button and Sergio Perez’s helmets interactive for this weekend’s British Grand Prix (00:01 a.m. Friday morning through to 11:59 p.m. Monday evening).

If fans can get close enough – either at the circuit or whilst viewing on TV – or if they come across the Mobil 1 logo anywhere else, they can scan it with the Blippar app on their smartphone or tablet to unlock a number of key features. These include links to funny film clips starring Jenson Button, information on the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-28 and even a function that allows you to take a picture of yourself 'facing off' with the British race ace.

This is how the app will appear on your smartphone or tablet once you scan the image. As you can see, it also features NASCAR champion Tony Stewart.

How does blippar work?
Blippar uses the camera in your smartphone/tablet to recognise images that are ‘blippable’ and return a response. That response could be anything from a simple weblink or video play through to a competition, interactive game, poll, coupon. etc.

How do I blipp?
1. Open the blippar app, wait for it to sync with the latest content and then hold it up in camera mode to the image you want to recognise.
2. Fill the screen with as much of the image as possible – whether an ad, article, photo, label or logo. Hold still and enjoy!
3. Use the ‘hold’ feature of the hand in the corner of the screen to hold the blipp content and take it away from the trigger image. Use the ‘share’ camera icon to snap a picture and share your blippar experiences with friends via email, Facebook and twitter.
