Ferrari's miserable season continued at the German Grand Prix on Saturday with neither of its drivers making an impact in qualifying continuing the Italian team's barren streak of failing to claim pole position.

The last time Ferrari was on pole position was with Fernando Alonso at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim in 2012, which is incidentally the venue of this weekend's race.

On Saturday, Alonso could do no better than seventh, qualifying more than a second off the pace of pole-sitter Nico Rosberg, while teammate Kimi Raikkonen was knocked out in Q2 with the Finn to line-up 12th on the grid on Sunday.

"We can't be happy with seventh, but it reflects the fact this weekend has been one of ups and downs," Alonso said. "Here, as in Austria, Mercedes and Williams seem out of reach, but we will do all we can to be at the front of the following group."

It's now been 39 Grands Prix since the last time a scarlet car started from the P1 on the grid.
