Following in the footsteps of his father Jos, Max Verstappen is set to race in Formula One next season with Toro Rosso with the pair becoming the 12th father-son duo to participate in the championship.

  • In 1974, Hans-Joachim Stuck became the first son to follow his father into F1.
  • Kevin Magnussen, who made his debut this season, is the last son to emulate his dad.
  • Five fathers have won a championship while only two sons have managed to claim a title.
  • Graham and Damon Hill are the only father-son duo to have clinched a championship.
  • Jacques Villeneuve is the only son to have won a championship while his father didn't.
  • Jacques Villenueve and Damon Hill were teammates during the 1996 season, and Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima were paired up for three seasons from 2007 to 2009. These are the only two occasions when sons of former F1 drivers were paired together in one team and on both occasions it was at Williams.
  • The Hills, Villenueves and Rosbergs are the ony father-son team to have won races.
  • Jack Brabham is the only one to have two sons who participated in a Grand Prix although Gary Brabham failed to qualify in the two GPs he took part in.
  • Three sons - Nico Rosberg, Kazuki Nakajima and Nelsinho Piquet - raced together on several occasions between 2008 and 2009, the last time at the Hungarian GP in 2009.
  • Nico Rosberg, Kevin Magnussen and Max Verstappen are set to be the third triple-son combination to race in F1 next year. (The other occasion was when Damon Hill, Christian Fittipaldi and Michael Andretti raced together in 1993.)

Here are those pairings with the fathers listed first in bold:
